YAKIMA, WASHINGTON COUNCIL REJECTS E-VERIFY
Contractors will not be required to sign up for E-Verify. From the Bellingham Herald:The Yakima City Council has voted against requiring city contractors use a federal program that checks a worker's eligibility to work in the United States.
In a 4-3 vote Tuesday, the council turned down a proposal to use the E-Verify system - a free, online program administered by the Department of Homeland Security.
Around the state , Clark, Whatcom and Pierce counties have implemented the federal program. The city of Lakewood also has approved E-Verify.
