MOST ARIZONA BUSINESSES HAVE NOT SIGNED UP FOR E-VERIFY YET
By tomorrow, all Arizona employers are required to be using E-Verify. From the Arizona Republic: Like most businesses in Arizona, Rubalcaba said Able Body had still not signed up for E-Verify, the free online federal database that electronically checks a new hire's employment eligibility. The service is required for new hires under the sanctions law, but federal records showed few of the state's 150,000 businesses had signed up as of late last week.

DIRE WARNINGS FOR ARIZONA
From this morning's EastValley Tribune (a paper in the Phoenix area): As those [illegal] workers disappear, the iron-clad law of supply and demand will kick in. Arizona businesses that rely heavily on immigrant labor — agriculture, construction and the hospitality industry — will try to attract new employees by raising their wages. Those who are successful will pass their costs on to consumers through higher prices for food, homes and other goods and services. Businesses that can’t find new workers at any salary level will be forced to scale back production or, in extreme cases, simply disappear.

WATCH THE PRICE OF LETTUCE
The Christian Science Monitor observes that the whole country is watching Arizona to see how they implement the tough new immigration law that goes in to effect tomorrow in their state. Half of all winter lettuce is grown in the state and the price of food around the country may take a hit.
